Use the correct car battery
Can I install any car battery? No, each vehicle supplies a different number of electrical appliances depending on the model and equipment. The more electrical appliances your vehicle has, the higher the capacity of the battery should be chosen. For vehicles that are mainly used for short distances, you should choose a smaller capacity. Too high a capacity cannot be charged sufficiently due to the short distance.
Not only the capacity is essential. The technology of the vehicle battery is also an important factor in choosing the right battery.
There are three different technologies, for better understanding we have listed them:
Wet battery: In these batteries the acid mixture (electrolyte) is liquid. This technology is most often installed in vehicles and is maintenance-free. No distilled water needs to be topped up.
AGM Battery (Absorbent Glass Mat): In AGM batteries, the electrolyte is completely bound in a glass fibre fleece, so these batteries are leak-proof even if damaged. In vehicles with comprehensive comfort equipment and start-stop function, AGM batteries are installed by the manufacturer due to the increased current consumption.
EFB batteries (Enhanced Flodded Battery): The EFB battery is a further development of the wet battery. The poly fleece material on the surface of the positive plate has a positive influence on the service life. Vehicles with simple start-stop technology, advanced driving requirements (city traffic) or extended equipment should use EFB batteries.
Please select the battery technology that the manufacturer has provided for the vehicle. The wrong battery technology can cause the failure of various functions. Please note the different charging voltages. The charging voltage of 13.8V to 14.4V is usually required for wet batteries or EFB batteries. In contrast, an AGM battery has charging voltages of 14.7V to 15V.
If you install an unsuitable technology in your vehicle, you will reduce the battery life massively. This is because the alternator cannot charge the battery with the correct charging voltage.
Our long experience in the field of starter batteries for cars shows us that it is important to always have the right battery in stock. If you have any questions or need help, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are very pleased!
Do you need additional support batteries?
Additional batteries are provided to support the car battery. For vehicles with a large number of electronic devices and a high energy requirement, for example due to automatic start-stop systems, the installation of a support battery is recommended.
